Stories on Squam: A Morning of Creative Writing May 29th

Saturday 10am-12pm | Squam Lakes Science Center | 534 US Rte 3, Holderness

Participants will be assigned a critter, plant, natural formation, etc. that can be found on Squam; we will keep what we’ve each been assigned to ourselves.

Then everyone will find a spot along the cove and write about what’s on their paper, WITHOUT EXPLICITLY SAYING WHAT THEY’VE BEEN GIVEN. You cannot use the word you’ve been assigned in your writing, only allude to it and write about the things it interacts with. This can be in any form of poetry or prose that you like, a haiku, a sonnet, a short story, or a simple paragraph. When finished, everyone will take turns reading their piece aloud and others will try to guess the subject of the piece, and the author will let us know if we got it correct!

All levels of writers are welcome, this is a no judgement zone! We all realize that writing in a short time is never going to reflect our best work. We are all here to enjoy people’s perspectives of the nature around us, no matter if you’re a beginner or a published novelist!

Brie has always been a devoted enthusiast of the Lake Life lifestyle, with an unwavering passion for New Hampshire and its charming Lakes Region. She thrives in this dynamic, ever-evolving environment and considers herself fortunate to have spent her formative years along the shores of Lake Kanasatka in Moultonborough before embarking on her journey to Lake Winnipesaukee. Brie's early exposure to these pristine lakes ignited her fascination with real estate, setting her on a path of discovery that began as a young teenager. At just 13 years old, she was already cruising Lake Winnipesaukee aboard her Boston Whaler, armed with a camera and real estate magazines, on a mission to study and compare homes. Her family's roots in the region trace back to the 1800s, further deepening her connection to this beautiful area. But it's not just the real estate that captivates Brie; it's the water itself. Her favorite summer pastime is immersing herself in the water and indulging in water sports. Brie's passion for wake surfing is well-known, and she often extends invitations to others to join her on her boat, where she imparts her expertise and shares the joy of cruising Lake Winnipesaukee. As the captain of her vessel, she now cherishes the experience of passing on this love for the water to her daughter, Summer Stephens, all while their loyal golden retriever, Braun, enjoys the wind's embrace from the bow. In Moultonborough, Brie is deeply engaged within her community. She dedicates herself to showcasing local businesses and highlights her husband's company, Stephens Landscaping, and its remarkable projects throughout the lakes and mountains. As a member of the NH & Lakes Region Home Builders Association, she holds the role of Vice President of Affiliates on the Executive Board and has co-chaired their annual Parade of Homes event for seven consecutive years. Brie has also served as a public official on the Town of Moultonborough's Planning Board for three years and sits as a board member for the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. Notably, Brie's Client Choice Charity Program reflects her commitment to giving back. She pledges a portion of every real estate commission to a charity of her clients' choice, demonstrating her dedication to enriching the Lakes and Mountains of Central New Hampshire, both personally and philanthropically. In every aspect of her life, Brie embodies the spirit of living, loving, excelling, and generously giving back to her cherished community.
