“Ice-Out” is when the ice that has covered the lake all winter melts enough so that the M/S Mount Washington cruise ship can navigate between its landing ports in Wolfeboro, Alton Bay, Weirs Beach, Meredith and Center Harbor. The date of this event has been recorded for over 130 years. The exact date and time is now determined by an observer in a small plane that flies over the lake daily. When the pilot radios in the Ice-Out call it is considered official!
“Silent” ONLINE AuctionThe night provides the opportunity to bid on and win an array of tastefully selected live & silent auction items. Items from previous years include, weekend getaways, lake activities, hotel stays, sporting/special event tickets, gift baskets, gift certificates and more!
All proceeds benefit the New Hampshire Boat Museum’s mission of preserving, exhibiting, and educating about the history of boating and life on New Hampshire’s lakes.

Intro to Herping April 17th
Saturday 10-12pm | Squam Lakes Association | Zoom
Join LRCC member Maggy for a lesson on how to responsibly find some New Hampshire herps! “Herps” is a general term used to describe amphibians and reptiles; the study of these animals is called herpetology. In New Hampshire we have many unique species of salamanders, frogs, toads, snakes and turtles. Did you know that amphibians are among the most affected groups in the current mass extinction event? Come and learn about some of our native amphibians, the things you can do to help protect them, and where to see them in the wild. We’ll also talk about species that we shouldn’t go looking for if they or their habitats are especially fragile.
Audience:Anyone interested in amphibians.
Materials:This Adventure Ecology will take place over Zoom, so all participants should have access to a computer and a reliable internet connection.
Location:In the comfort of your home or wherever you may be!Registration is required. Please register by Friday, April 16th. Register here
This Week's LRCC Presenter:
Hi there, I’m Maggy and I hail from New York, though the Granite State has been my stomping grounds for the last couple of years. Before joining the LRCC, I studied sustainability, worked closely with wildlife and trained assistance dogs for those seeking greater independence in their daily lives. On a day off I love kayaking, bird watching, star gazing, and a good bagel. I’m excited to continue doing conservation work with the SLA and educate the community on how we can preserve and protect the Squam watershed!
